Stormont Visit 2016

Stormont Visit

November proved to be a busy month for Year 10 as they also made the short journey to Stormont for the annual trip to Parliament Buildings. The visit is part of the Learning for Life and Work (LLW) ‘Local and Global Citizenship’ Unit.

The girls were given the full VIP treatment and enjoyed a tour of the historic venue before taking part in their own mock election – complete with PR voting! The morning culminated in a keenly contested debate on the floor of the Assembly chamber. Despite the grandiose setting, Year 10 were very much at ease as they expertly discussed the pros and cons of extending the vote to 16 year olds. Although for most involved it was their first taste of life ‘on the hill’, there’s no doubt for many it will not be their last. Well done girls and many thanks to all in the Education Office at the Northern Ireland Assembly.
