The Spring Concert at our school was a harmonious blend of diverse musical performances, showcasing the remarkable talent and dedication of our students. From soul-stirring choruses to captivating instrumental melodies, the evening was an unforgettable celebration of music and artistry.
The concert commenced with a lively medley from the timeless classic ‘Grease’, skilfully orchestrated and performed by the spirited collaboration of the Orchestra and the Senior Choir. This included the well-known Grease Lightning dance moves – the members of the Choir were not too pleased at having to perform this. The youthful energy of the Junior Choir resonated throughout the auditorium as they beautifully rendered ‘Surface Pressure’ and ‘Flashlight’, leaving the audience mesmerized. The addition of the flashlights was a stroke of brilliance from Mrs Stevenson, even if at some points we were both quite stressed at rogue lights flashing at the wrong time.
The evocative duet performance of ‘Intermezzo’ from ‘Carmen’ by Jessica Fielding (clarinet) and Emily Preston (piano) captivated the audience, displaying the expressive prowess of our talented GCSE musicians. The wind band enthralled the gathering with their renditions of ‘Princess and the Frog’ and ‘I’ll Be There for You’, creating an ambiance of joy and nostalgia, even if the audience had to have a second try at the iconic claps.
The powerful and soulful voices of the Senior Choir filled the air as they delivered moving renditions of ‘Adiemus’ and ‘Kayama’, leaving a profound emotional impact on all present. The solo dance performance by Thea Thompson was a breath-taking display of grace and artistry, captivating the audience with its poignant storytelling through movement.
The Junior Strings Ensemble enchanted the listeners with their rendition of ‘Beauty and the Beast’. To end the first half a compelling trio (Annabelle Burton, Storm Dougherty, and Rachel Smith) and Chamber Choir collaborated to deliver a stirring performance of ‘When You Believe’ from the Prince of Egypt.
In the second half, the auditorium was serenaded by the melodic voice of talented soloist Annabelle Burton, who captivated hearts with ‘Think of Me’, leaving an indelible mark on the memories of all attendees. The guitar club took us back to the 80s and enriched the evening with their performance of well-known guitar riffs. Our Chamber Choir performed the piece ‘Hymn’ leaving the audience in awe of their harmonious synergy.
A captivating solo rendition of ‘Hopelessly Devoted’ by Eden Fulton further added a layer of emotional depth to the evening’s repertoire. The concert reached its finale with an electrifying performance by the Orchestra and Choir (including staff), enthralling the audience with a nostalgic 90s medley featuring hits from Britney Spears, Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, and concluding with the iconic ‘Angels’ by Robbie Williams.
The spring concert was a testament to the remarkable musical talent and dedication of our students, showcasing the power of music to unite, inspire and evoke profound emotions. The event left an enduring impression, serving as a reminder of the transformative and unifying influence of the arts. The concert would not have happened without the hard-working staff members who gave their time to provide opportunities for our pupils to perform. I am grateful and wish to give my heartfelt thanks for all that they do.
We eagerly anticipate next year’s Spring Concert extravaganza – maybe we will do two nights.
