Well done to our marvellous Year 8 hockey team, who finished second in the Lynsey Waller Memorial hockey tournament at Carrick Grammar School earlier today. This is a very promising group of players, and they have performed brilliantly in matches throughout the season.
Tournament Report
Our first match was against Belfast Royal Academy and, despite our vigorous efforts, we lost 2-0.
We did not let that narrow defeat affect our positive attitude and we were determined to win our next game against Ballyclare High School. With our game faces on, we moved the ball quickly up towards their net and I scored a goal!
Antrim Grammar School were our next opponents. We had a great start but, sadly, our best chance bounced off their keeper and went wide of the post. We missed the net four or five times as they continued to defend. The game ended 0-0.
Our final match was against Carrick Grammar School. Again, their defence was brilliant, but our midfielders passed the ball in one of the best moves of the day. The ball reached Ellen Hare who scored a fantastic goal to put Bloomfield into the lead. We continued to play well and we were pleased when the referee blew the whistle at 1-0.
When we were packing up to return to school, it was announced that Bloomfield finished second in the tournament. We were really delighted and we all cheered when were awarded our medals.
It was another successful day for the might Year 8 hockey team!
