Delamont 2016

The Year 11 GCSE PE class visited Delamont Outdoor Education Centre earlier this month to complete a module in rock climbing. For three days the girls immersed themselves in everything to do with mastering the skills to enable them to tie knots, coil ropes, complete Grade 3, 4 and 5 climbs and belay for each other. The difference in their knowledge and skill level from the start of the course until its finish was quite incredible. They ‘learnt the basics’ at Killyleagh Outdoor Education Centre and progressed to the Hotrock Climbing Wall at Tollymore Mountain Centre. Each member of the class managed to score highly in this practical module.

Thank you to the staff at Delamont. Delivery of the course was excellent, combining the information and instruction of the practical skills with the necessary hard and fast safety rules and regulations, but also with humour which made the experience fun and thoroughly enjoyable. We hope that the Education Authority takes note of the importance of accessibility to this facility and others like it for all pupils, not only in light of their external examinations but for the personal development and life skills learnt.
