November and December are always very busy months for the Music Department. Not only have preparations for the Carol Service been underway, but the pupils have also been representing the School at other musical activities around Belfast.
The AS and A-Level Music classes went to the Opera House, Belfast to see West Side Story, and also took part in a Question and Answer Session with prolific film composer David Arnold at the Odyssey, as part of the ‘Cinemagic Film Festival’.
Thady G won the ‘Har-fest’ young songwriter competition, and so she and Lauren Mackey performed the winning song on BBC Radio Ulster on Saturday November 1st.
On Saturday 22nd November, the Chamber Choir performed at St.Mark’s Church Winter Fair, to great acclaim.
On Saturday 29th November Erin N, Alice T and Lauren M sang at Stormont School of Music’s ‘Angelic Voices on a Winter’s Eve’ in St George’s Church, High Street. It was a wonderful evening, run by one of Bloomfield’s vocal coaches: Mrs H. Fleming. Many thanks to her, and all the School peripatetic music tutors, for all their hard work this term.
On Monday 15th December the Collegium Ensemble performed at the Harbour Commissioner’s Private Christmas Dinner reception. The atmosphere was magical, and the girls performed to the highest standard. Following this was the School Carol Service on 16th December evening. This was a most special evening, filled with a hugely varied repertoire of festive music. The performers included Junior Choir, Senior Choir, Chamber Choir, Collegium Ensemble and Folk Group.
Congratulations to all girls involved in these events.
