European Day of Languages is celebrated every year on the 26th of September. This year, Bloomfield marked the occasion with a languages fair, featuring stalls from students speaking Cantonese, Mandarin, Tagalog, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Bengali, Serbian, Croatian, Polish, Romanian, Arabic, Italian and German.
The pupils running the stalls saw the fair as an opportunity to educate their peers on the many cultures and languages that exist within our school community, teaching the importance of cultural diversity and acceptance in a fun and engaging manner.
Mrs Polley highlighted the success of the event, saying that it “promoted intercultural understanding, as well as lifelong language learning outside and inside of school.”
It was well received by pupils too, with Freya, Poppy and Devin from Year 8 saying that it helped them to understand the different lifestyles and languages of their peers better and in a more approachable environment.
