2023 Art and Design Showcase
Thank you so much to all of the parents, guardians, family, friends, teachers and governors who came along to celebrate the work of our incredibly talented, dedicated and utterly brilliant GCSE and A level Art and Design students of 2023! We are very proud of you all and hope you enjoyed seeing your work and talents on display.
Leah Massey
Congratulations to our year 13 pupil Leah Massey who was recently awarded ‘Most Promising GCSE Art and Design Student’ by the AADE for her GCSE coursework and examination work. AADE representatives along with two University of Ulster lecturers selected Leah’s work out of the GCSE work on show at CCEA’s 2022 exhibition of excellence, True Colours.
This is a fantastic achievement, and we are extremely proud of Leah and her incredible skills, talent, and dedication.
Loren Allen
Loren has been shortlisted for the Terry Bradley Art Prize for one of her A Level paintings called “M23”. The public can vote for their favourite work!
Fashion and Interiors Competition
Congratulations to our competition winners and to all who entered. The standard was incredibly high, and you impressed us all with your creativity, painting skills and knowledge of colour theory. Well done Year 8!
Shannon Greer
We were delighted to welcome back former pupil Shannon Greer to the Art and Design Department to hear her talk about her role as a Creative Strategist at For People in London. Shannon told the girls about her journey through school where she found many subjects difficult but always loved Art and Technology. She encouraged the girls to work hard, believe in themselves and to choose subjects that they love and hope to have a future in.
She spoke about studying Graphic Design at University of Ulster where she obtained a first-class honours degree, her first job as a Graphic Designer at Ardmore Advertising, collaborative projects with artists, musicians, film and video producers and her current role in London as a Creative Strategist. We all loved hearing about her exciting projects and found it very inspiring.
Afterwards Mrs McWilliams, Mr Driscoll and Mr McManus were very humbled to hear from Shannon how much she appreciated their help and guidance when she was in their A level classes.
Head of Art and Design Career Break
After 15 very happy years in the BCS Art Department teaching the best pupils in Belfast and working with the best colleagues I have decided to take a career break. Thank you so much to all of the pupils past and present for your hard work, dedication, creativity, skill and enthusiasm for Art and Design. Teaching you has been an absolute joy and privilege and has given me many proud moments and golden memories that I will treasure forever. Thank you also for all the beautiful flowers, gifts, cards, paintings, and best wishes. As always, your kindness and thoughtfulness is much appreciated.
Wishing you all a happy, healthy, and fun-filled summer.
Mrs McWilliams
