The Young Social Innovators Team was invited to attend a full meeting of Belfast City Council on Tuesday 1 October 2013 where their motion on homelessness was debated. The motion – that the council should devote more time and resources to tackling the issue of homelessness and assisting the relevant NGOs – was proposed by the DUP (on behalf of the YSI Team), seconded by the SDLP and unanimously backed by all other parties (after a half hour debate). The girls (and the school) were applauded by the chamber for their efforts. It was the first time in the Council’s history that a school had tabled a motion to be debated. It was also the first time that a motion received instant cross community backing.
Success for YSI Team
