Pupil News

While some of our wonderful pupils’ achievements have been displayed on the School’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, the busyness of the past few weeks post-Easter has delayed the sharing of more good news. Below are a few of the wonderful things Bloomfield girls have been involved in.

Charlotte Eadie (Year 13) and Isabel Nixon (Year 10) both attended the Irish Sailing Youth National Championships 2023, Ireland’s largest youth regatta in Howth in April. With Charlotte in a ILCA6 dinghy and Isabel in a Topper dinghy, the girls both achieved an impressive 16th in their respective fleets.

Both Charlotte and Isabel are part of the Royal Yachting Association Northern Ireland (RYANI) Youth Performance Programme and Charlotte is also on the Performance Academy for Northern Ireland. The Programme is made up of the best sailors in Northern Ireland. Charlotte and Isabel were also selected by Irish Sailing to complete their winter training programme. This involved intensive training on and off the water, with Charlotte attending Performance Camps in Valencia.

Lucy Donnan (Year 12), Bea Browne (Year 10) and Abi Gardner (Year 8) recently competed at the Northern Ireland Festival, Ireland’s Largest Horse and Pony Show, in Cavan.

Congratulations to Bea on 2nd place in the under 16 Connemara class and Abbey, who came 2nd in M&M Novice Ridden and the 133 75cm classes. She also came 5th in the 133 90cm class.

We are all jealous of Heidi McKay (Year 11) who received a personal invitation to the coronation of King Charles III in London. Heidi was chosen as a representative of the Scout movement in Northern Ireland.

Athletics

The following Athletes qualified for the Ulster Schools’ Championships by finishing in the following
places at District Championships:

Annie Armstrong 3rd 200m & 3rd long jump; Megan Fielding 3rd shotput; Devon Booth 3rd 100m & 2nd long jump; Erin Dunlop 2nd High Jump; Joanna McCurry 2nd shotput. Well done all, and congratulations in particular to Erin, who again placed 2nd and will complete at the Irish Championships, and Devon, who won a silver medal in the Mini Girls’ 100m.

Thanks also to the ever-willing helpers from Bloomfield who sold the programmes and hoodies.

Maintaining Expectations

As we enter the final weeks of term, we are determined to ensure that learning continues uninterrupted and that, post Covid, we continue to address issues arising from the loss of routine, socialisation and structured learning environments. In assembly today, I outlined what is meant by a marginal gains approach – that little positives add up to major strides forward, both personally and collectively. For the remainder of this year, we will be focusing on marginal gains in mobile phone usage, uniform and consistent classroom routine. As always, we appreciate your support in these areas.
