On Monday, 1st October, the staff of Bloomfield Collegiate paid tribute to one of our longest-serving teachers, Mr John Blackwell, who formally retired from the School.
Mr Blackwell joined Bloomfield in 1991 and quickly became an integral part of the School. As a teacher and then Head of Physics, he continued our goal of boosting diversity in Science and engendered a love of physics in countless Bloomfield girls. He was a passionate believer in girls taking up the subject at GCSE, A Level and beyond, and the pupils appreciated his warmth, wit and dedication.
As Examinations Officer, he carried out his job with efficiency and diplomacy. He was always a gentleman when a pupil or a colleague asked for his help, taking the time to explain complex issues with skill and understanding.
He also made a tremendous contribution to the Senior Leadership Team with his wise and thoughtful comments about the direction of School.
John, now that you have taken off your mortarboard and gown, you can look back on your career in the classroom with pride. You have helped a generation of pupils improve their understanding of the world. As you begin to enjoy your much earned and deserved retirement, the School wishes you every blessing.
