Bloomfield Collegiate’ s Day of Ambition took place on Tuesday 6th December.
Around 300 Year 11 pupils from schools across East Belfast descended on Bloomfield to explore innovation and get the chance to meet 15 leading technical companies. The day was in two parts. Firstly, there were teamwork based tasks during which pupils were challenged to build marshmallow towers and egg parachutes.
Next the pupils had an opportunity to meet each individual company and chat about the exciting fields of innovation with live interactive demonstrations. After lunch, three young innovators, all past pupils of local schools, pitched their innovative products and answered questions from the audience. The theme for the day was “Stretch Yourself” and this was in evidence through the enthusiasm and participation of all involved. The innovation theme continued with a live video streaming event supported by C2k and Education Authority Television Services.
A big thank you to the CONNECT team at Catalyst for helping organise this as part of their Generation Innovation programme and East Belfast ALC for allowing pupils to attend. Thanks also to Deloitte Digital for providing support from their Bright start talent pool and to the Department for Communities for sponsoring the event. Finally, the biggest thank you goes to Mr McEvoy who was the driving force behind the event.
