Open Evening 2025

Welcome to Bloomfield

Thank you to everyone who attended our open evening. It was great to see so many of you meeting our staff, exploring the facilities, and learning about the different subjects and activities we offer in Bloomfield Collegiate School.

The atmosphere was fantastic. I was especially pleased with the confidence and commitment of our Year 8 guides who helped you navigate your way around the buildings and answered questions about life in school.

We are proud of the collaborative and supportive community we have built together, and we look forward to continuing this journey with all of you. Thank you once again for making the evening such a memorable and successful event.

Open Evening 2025

Tuesday, 14th January
6:00pm – 9:00pm

Pupil Voice

During the Principal’s address, three of our wonderful Year 8s also gave their views on Bloomfield Collegiate School. Read their speeches:

First of all, thank you all so much for attending our open evening.  It really brings me joy that your daughters and you are interested in our school.  Our fantastic staff really make our lives special in school.  I loved the open evenings when I was in P6 and P7, especially Bloomfield.  We have tasty treats down the hall in HE and daring experiments in science which I highly recommend checking out.

When I was in your shoes in P7 I was nervous about the transfer process…. But I was up for the challenge.  As the days passed, the excitement grew, and I couldn’t wait to start Bloomfield.

On the first day, I was greeted by sixth form pupils and my amazing form teacher Mrs Lester, who talked to me along with my Head of Year Mrs Rea. They helped with organising books, understanding the timetable and finding my way around school.

Everyday I come into school with a good attitude and wondering what I will be learning. As I have said a bit earlier all the staff are super, from the teachers, cleaners, dinner ladies and even a shout out to Mr Greer and Mrs Thomson.

I have always enjoyed dancing and I am proud to say that I made the dance team…  After school clubs are fantastic and a great way to make new friends.  Some of the clubs are Choir with Mrs Stevenson, I was given the opportunity to sing a solo at the Carol Service. There is also orchestra with Mrs Mark and cross country, hockey and athletics with Mrs Greer and school council which I am part of too.

In our school we have 4 fabulous houses; Spencer which is Green, Walker is yellow, Curran is Red and the best house is Clarke which is Blue.   This year we had house pantomimes, where each house competed against each other in a short panto performed in front of the whole school. My house Clarke did Snow White, and we even had a teacher Christmas Sing-a-long during the judging. It was a great way to end the term!

Unfortunately, the time has come to the end of my speech.  If you have any queries, please let me know.  I will be dancing with our junior dance team so look out for us around the school.  I hope you have a wonderful night of exploring the school and I hope to see some familiar faces in September…

Thank you all for listening.

Hi, my name is Nell. I used to go to Knockbreda Primary School which some of you may attend. I know you may be nervous about changing schools. Change can be scary, but I promise you this time next year you will be fully settled in.  But for now, I hope with this speech I can help you feel a little bit better about making the move from Primary school to secondary school.

A year ago, I was in the same position as you, I was anxious and excited to go to secondary school and I didn’t really know what school I wanted to go to but by the time it come to putting down a top school on the list I knew it had to be Bloomfield. The main reason I picked Bloomfield was because it felt like it had a kind and caring community and all the girls seemed to really love it and now that I am here, I can see that’s all true. I also picked it because of the great transport links and how close it is to Ballyhackamore!

Before you start in August there is an induction day in June where you get a tour of the school and meet your form teacher and other classmates.  One of the things I was really worried about was making friends and because I came from a smaller primary school, I was scared everyone would already know each other.  But on the first day you get to do ice breaker games and get a chance to talk to new people.

At the start of the year there is a sorting hat assembly where you get told which house you will be in, Clarke, Curran, Spencer or Walker. I am in the best house, Clarke! We have house assemblies every week and lots of different house competitions that everyone can get involved in such as House Bake off and House Sport.

For the first couple of weeks the teachers will help you get settled in and organised and I know you might be worried about getting lost of getting lost but there is always someone there to help!

There are so many clubs to get involved in at Bloomfield which are great opportunities to meet different people.  I do hockey, netball, debating society and I am in the school council but there are so many more like junior choir, SU and athletics.  In secondary school you will get the opportunity to do more subjects than in primary school like science, Home Economics and technology.

One last thing I want to say is that Bloomfield is a kind and caring school, and everyone tries to work hard and go by our school values, Benevolence, Bravery, Curiosity, Commitment, Solidarity and Success.  I really recommend Bloomfield and I hope you pick the school that is right for you, and I hope that you love it.

Thank you for listening.
