Concert Band

This large group is made up of pupils from Y8 – Y14. It encompasses woodwind, brass, percussion, guitar and synthesiser instrumentalists from Grade 2 to Grade 8 standard.
Concert Band rehearses at lunch time on Monday. We hold extended after school rehearsals near to concert performance times. The music repertoire is wide including film, dance, classical, contemporary pop and music theatre. We often combine with the school choirs.

String Orchestra

The string orchestra, conducted by Mrs Newman, meets once a week during a lunch time. It is open to all girls who play a stringed instrument from about Grade 3 upwards. It is a great opportunity for younger pupils to experience playing with a group of very able older players and to see what they will be able to play, with a lot of practice, in a few years’ time.  Sometimes the senior players from this group join with members of the Concert Band to experience playing as a full symphony orchestra. Repertoire ranges from film music to popular classics.

Collegiate Choir

Approximately 65 girls from Y11 to Y14.
Singing in up to 4 parts, sopranos and altos perform a vast mix of music at several venues throughout the year. We rehearse on Thursday lunch time and after school on Tuesday from 3.20pm to 4.30pm.

Junior Choir

Junior Choir practises during lunch time. This year the regular practice is on a Friday, but we often add a second practice day in the run up to a performance. The Junior Choir is a large group of girls in Years 8, 9 and 10, and is conducted by Mrs Newman. We try to choose really attractive music and we often sing in up to 3 vocal parts. We are a regular feature at the school Carol Service and we take an important part in school concerts. In recent performances we have filled the roles of the Maids and the Spinners in Karl Jenkins’ opera “Eloise” and we really enjoyed our renditions of songs by Queen and our selection of numbers by The Beach Boys. This year the Junior Choir are presenting a short musical, “Rats!” based on the story of the Pied Piper. We are already planning costumes, makeup and choreography. Let the show begin!

This is a select group of approximately 24 chosen senior pupils. Conducted by Mrs Ross, the format of this group will change with the requirements of concert performances throughout the year. Collegium can be a choir group or an instrumental group or a combination of both.
This is an extremely dedicated and flexible combination of top Bloomfield musicians who work to a very high standard and push the boundaries of their musical talent.
